In Resin (2024) for solo piano
Composed by Erin C. Blake
Performed on November 4th, 2024
Ford-Crawford Hall, Jacobs School of Music, Bloomington, IN
In Resin is a reflection on the interactions that you have with others when you don’t know who you yourself are, often idolizing and modeling yourself off people who probably know just as little about themselves. The piece considers how we look back on turbulent formative years, realizing how the people around you then, for better or for worse, have become integrated into who you are now. In six movements, we mull over past mistakes, recounting our first encounters and happiest memories tinged with insecurity, the confrontations that ended poorly, and the moving on that never truly ended.
