A Thief, a Stain, a War uses original text by Claire Cartwright to detail a heated altercation between a sock and a dryer. Prior to the events of this piece, the dryer, as dryers do, stole the sock’s beloved partner. Devastated, the sock struck where she knew it would hurt the dryer the most — by hurting not the dryer but the dryer’s beloved, the washing machine, and staining a load of laundry red.
